Alex is a native of Punxsutawney, PA where he played football and baseball in high school. He played collegiate baseball at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where he was a four-year letterman, voted team captain his senior year, and a multiple-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar Athlete. At the conclusion of his collegiate career, he signed a free agent contract with the St. Joseph Blacksnakes of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.
His professional career also included stints in the United League and Frontier League, including a Frontier League Championship Series appearance in 2007 with the Washington Wild Things. At the conclusion of his professional career after the 2009 season, he returned to IUP as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Crimson Hawks baseball team. During his coaching tenure at IUP from 2010-2013, he also served as an Assistant Coach with the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Summer Baseball League under legendary Head Coach Mike Roberts, who was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2015.
After graduating from IUP in 2012 with a Master’s Degree in Health and Physical Education, Alex continued his coaching career by accepting a volunteer Strength and Conditioning position with the University of Pittsburgh’s Olympic Sports Staff. He then moved on to serve a similar role at Wofford College before accepting a position as a Minor League Strength and Conditioning Coach with the Kansas City Royals in December of 2013. He was assigned to the Burlington Royals of the Appalachian League (R) in 2014 and the Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Carolina League (High A) in 2015.
His passion for optimal athlete performance landed him back in the classroom at Shenandoah University, where he earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2020. Prior to his role with Clubhouse Athletics, he spent two years as a Physical Therapist and Clinic Director for True Sports Physical Therapy in Frederick, MD where he worked with athletes across all major sports ranging from middle school aged to the professional level. His treatment specialties include shoulder/elbow pain management as seen in overhead athletes, ACL Reconstruction Surgery rehab, UCL Reconstruction (Tommy John Surgery) rehab, managing acute and chronic tendinopathies as seen in repetitive jumping sports, and managing acute hamstring injuries.
Alex authored his first arm care e-book in 2022 titled Periodized Arm Care for the Overhead Athlete. Aside from serving as the facility’s Head Physical Therapist and Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, he will also be the host of the official podcast of Clubhouse Athletics: The Performance Rehabilitation and Strength Training Podcast.
Alex is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach through USA Weightlifting (USAW-1). Alex currently resides in East Berlin with his wife and two daughters.
